DER KAISER VON ATLANTIS
Set in a world of steam-engine and clockwork technology, with music by Viktor Ullmann and libretto by Peter Kien, DER KAISER VON ATLANTIS is a Steampunk journey through this heart wrenching operatic commentary on the Holocaust as experienced by the victims of the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp.
This production premiered in December 2012 at
the Czech Center Bohemian National Hall in New York, NY and was revived by command performance in February 2013 at the same venue. In December 2013 DER KAISER VON ATLANTIS then toured to Vienna, Austria at the Maria Theresienkaserne on Fasangartenstrasse, which was a previously occupied Nazi Military Base and held special importance to the project as the score and libretto were originally written in the infamous concentration camp, Theresienstadt.
